Ryan Preston steps down as Gaels Coach

The Green Gaels Lacrosse Club announces that Ryan Preston has stepped down as Head Coach following the conclusion of the 2026 Ontario Junior "B" Lacrosse League season.

Ryan's connection to the Green Gaels runs far deeper than the two years he spent as Head Coach. A proud Green Gaels alumnus, Ryan wore the Green and White from 2001 through 2003, helping the organization capture the 2002 Founders Cup National Championship as a player before returning more than two decades later to help lead the next generation of Gaels.

Ryan joined the Green Gaels coaching staff as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024 season before being promoted to Head Coach for the 2025 campaign. He remained behind the bench through the 2026 season, guiding the program with passion, integrity, and a genuine commitment to player development.

Throughout his time with the organization, Ryan placed a strong emphasis on teaching the game the right way while helping young players continue their growth both on and off the floor. His intensity, attention to detail, and passion for developing athletes made a lasting impact on everyone who had the opportunity to play under him.

"Ryan has always represented what it means to be a Green Gael," said Green Gaels President Matt Chamois. "From winning a Founders Cup as a player to returning to help lead our program from behind the bench, Ryan has given back tremendously to this organization. We are incredibly grateful for the time, commitment, and countless hours he dedicated to helping our players improve both as lacrosse players and as young men. We wish him nothing but continued success."

Although his time behind the Green Gaels bench has come to an end, Ryan's impact on the sport continues. He will remain involved with Lacrosse Canada while also continuing his work with the Rochester Knighthawks.

The Green Gaels organization extends its sincere appreciation to Ryan for everything he has contributed over the past three seasons. His commitment to the program, our players, and the values of Family, Honour, Pride, Tradition has left the organization in a stronger position.

The Green Gaels will begin preparations for the 2027 season immediately. Details regarding the club's coaching staff for the 2027 Ontario Junior "B" Lacrosse League season will be announced in the coming weeks.
