Billets

For the Green Gaels Jr. B Lacrosse club, Family has always held a place of importance. Our billet families exemplify that value, and are an immensely important part of the Gaels community. By hosting players who are away from their homes for the lacrosse season, they play a fundamental role in the team and the lives of those players, and their hospitality and dedication are always appreciated. Stepping in to that role can be a fulfilling and exciting experience as well, often marking the beginning of lifelong friendships between our players and billet families.

For those interested in joining our growing roster of billets, we ask you read the following in order to foster a shared understanding of expectations between billet, club, and player.

Green Gaels Billet Guide

Understanding and communication are necessary for creating a mutually beneficial hosting environment. Make sure the expectations and rules of your household are made clear to your hosted player. Not every house has the same ground rules, let alone customs and norms, so making sure that everyone is on the same page about even the little things like when the shower is available will ensure that misunderstandings don't grow in to problems.

Three well-rounded and varied meals, plus snacks, should be provided every day. This is another area where communication and consideration are a must: discussing food preferences, dietary restrictions, and meal times at the outset and on a regular basis gives everyone a more accurate expectation and the ability to plan. The pregame meal is vital to ensuring players have the energy for a game, so players should eat roughly 4-5 hours before game time.

The lacrosse club has rules on alcohol, banned substances, curfew, and regulates out-of-town travel for all players. A player's partner is expected not to be over past curfew, and this is another topic where setting expectations around your house rules is helpful. If problems arise from anything listed here, please notify the club. If you have a vacation or trip planned during the season or post-season, please notify the club so that arrangements can be made.

Billets are under no obligation to lend vehicles, electronics, computers, or other personal property to their hosted players. While the Gaels provide transportation to away games, there may be some times where your player will need a drive to our home arena, the Garnet B. Rickard.

The Green Gaels give billets $125 per week, or $500 per month, to help offset the costs associated with hosting, as well as two season tickets.
