Green Gaels Honour Tom Wreggitt
Ahead of the Green Gaels Awards Banquet to be held at the 420 Wing in Oshawa on December 29th, the Green Gaels have taken the opportunity to honour Green Gaels alumni Tom Wreggitt by re-naming the Green Gaels Offensive MVP Trophy as the "Tom Wreggitt Offensive MVP Award".
After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Tom passed away on September 19th, 2022. Tom played with the Gaels from 1972 through 1978 and was consistently among the team leaders and league leaders in offensive production. Over his career with the Green Gaels, Tom scored 343 goals and 334 assists over 217 games.
Following his Junior career, Tom went on to play 20 seasons of Major Series Lacrosse between the Brooklin Redmen (now known as Brooklin LC) and the Peterborough Lakers, as well as two season with the Brooklin Merchants. In 2006, Tom returned to the Green Gaels organization as an assistant coach along side Rick and John Phillips.
His playing career has been highlighted by inductions into both the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. One of the most prolific players to ever play the game, Tom always had the respect of both his teammates and opponents and was a true gentleman both on and off the floor.
The newly named award will be presented for the first time on Thursday, December 29th along with seven other awards to highlight members of the 2022 Green Gaels team.
