Gaels Win!
Finally!
The Gaels winless streak has ended. After a rough stretch where the Gaels picked up a single point over 5 games (going 0-4-1), the Gaels defeated the West Durham Ironheads Saturday afternoon.
But first, The Green Gaels hosted the Halton Hills Bulldogs Thursday night at Rickard. Garrett Thompson got the start for the Gaels, goals by McNutt, Drimmie and Tucker saw the Gaels leading 3-1 after 20 minutes.
6 straight Halton Hills goals (Gaels got out scored 3-0 in the second period) would spell disaster and a last minute comeback with back to back goals by Hicks wouldn't be enough and The Bulldogs took the game by a score of 8-5.
Saturday afternoon the Green Gaels headed down the 401 to take on the West Durham Ironheads in an afternoon game. Craig Johannson got the start in goal, however a poor first period would see the Ironheads leading 4-3 after 20 minutes, leading to a change in goal to start the second.
The Goaltending change awoke the Gaels who would then score 8 of the first 9 goals to start the second. 3 straight Ironheads goals to end the second/start the third wouldn't be enough and the Gaels easily walked away with the 16-9 victory.
Cole Tucker (3g 4a) and Robbie McGrayne (2g 5a) led the way on offence with 7 points each.
The Green Gaels return to action this Thursday when they host the winless Newmarket Saints. That game time is 8pm at Garnet B Rickard.
The Gaels (6-4-1) now lead the division by a single point over the Kings (6-7-0).
