Gaels grab another home win against Orillia

On Sunday afternoon, the Gaels faced off against Mid-East Division rival the Orillia Kings. The Gaels are looking for a win to further their lead at the top of the division, and the Kings are looking to tie up the first place spot with a win.

Captain Cole Tucker gets things underway for the Gaels as he gets the first two opening goals of the game. Orillia would bring it within one with a goal from Devun Colebrook. The Gaels get hot early once again with four straight goals from Drew Cairns, Xander Johnson, and Kaleb Tatarek pots two of the four.

Jake Curran of Orillia scores with just 36 seconds left in the first to finish the frame at a 6-2 Gaels lead.

The second period was a much closer goaltending and defensive end battle for both teams as there was only one a-piece for both teams. Jesse Ashkewe scores one for Orillia to bring it to 6-3. About 5 minutes later, Keleb Tatarek scores his 3rd of the night, giving himself another hat trick. With Kaleb’s goal, the Gaels lead 7-3 after the second.

The Gaels learned early in this third period that you can’t let a team looking to tie up the division hang around. Orillia gets off to a hot start with goals coming from Jesse Ashkewe, Tanner Thayer, and Colson Maracle.

The Gales stop the bleeding with a 4th from Kaleb Tatarek and a goal from Ty Taylor as well. Orillia comes back with two more of their own from Devun Colebrook and Kaleb Parkhurst. This brings us to an intense 9-8 late Gaels lead.

As things are looking rough for the Gaels, almost giving the game away, Colton McNutt adds another game-winning goal to his tab. Orillia would score once more with a goal from Ethan Marwick, but it will not matter as the Gaels pull away with another win at home.

This win keeps The Green Gaels in first place of the division with 16 points and keeps Orillia trailing their tail in second with 12 points.

Next up for the Gaels is their #StandAgainstMS game. On Thursday, May 30th, at 8:00 pm, they will face off against Mimico in their annual charity game to raise funds for a great cause. Make sure to come by for a great game, to see the Gaels rep some nice orange threads, and to help the Gaels support this great foundation!
