Gaels Down The Mountaineers
The Green Gaels returned home to the Garnet B Rickard Thursday night to take on the Mountaineers for the second time this season. The shorthanded (playing with just 9 runners) Mountaineers would dominate early and jump out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the first period.
A three goal explosion to start the second period would get the Green Gaels back in the game, before an apparent injury would sideline starting Goaltender Malcolm Vivian for the remainder of the evening. Ethan Harwood would step in between the pipes for the remainder of the match. A dominant period by the Gaels would see the game tied at 8 after forty minutes and a back and forth 3rd period would see the Gaels squeek out a 12-11 win and improve their record to 6-2-1.
Quinn Hyland lead the way for the Gaels with 2 Goals and 3 assists, while Connor Platt would score four times, including his 20th of the season.
The Green Gaels are back in action this Sunday when they head to Newmarket to take on the winless Saints for a 2pm match up. We then return home this Thursday to take on the Ironheads in a game that could play a key role in determining who wins the division.
